my single contribution to film reviewery ...

"wuthering heights"
not sure if any of you have heard of this obscure little book, but fwiw ... a romeo et juliet story of frustrated passions, set on yorkshire moors. gypsy foundling raised by wealthy laird alongside his own boy and girl. lairdy boy hates gypsy boy for usurping him in daddy's affections, lairdy girl loves gypsy boy innocently and completely .. up to a certain age. gypsy teenager and lairdy girl teenager get folksy and mental over each other, til miscommunications and prejudices tear their wild moorsy joy asunder. yada yada. she marries local fop, he marries fop's sister. both breed one a piece, with her dropping dead immediately post-partum. the end.
but not in OUR story! ours is the above story told in one long flashback, from the point of view of an aging heathcliff. the progeny of our two mentals are now 18 years old, and about to be married under duress - heathy has his eye on inheritances, ya see. but wait, there's more! heathcliff's son is one of those fragile types .. and promptly dies as soon as wed. and lurking in the shadow's is a handsome, wild gypsy-like boy (raised by heathcliff), the abandoned son of the original lairdy boy - the one who hated heathcliff all those years ago. you can guess the rest. cathy (original cathy's daughter to the local fop) has inherited her mothers love of the moors and running wild with well shampooed hair, so .... BBC miniseries in two parts. actually quite noice viewing. didn't mind it. the dude who played heathcliff was awesome, I have to say. not as handsome as I'd have cast, but a great actor. really impressive. 6/10.
