and not just for the funky sounds and awesome jitterbugging (ahhh ... memories!). just check out the gorgeous and sublimely flattering cut of all those skirts!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME. Love em. At the risk of sounding like a sook tho, its all verra white, innit? Black music...black dancing....pale skins doing it all.
Re the gorgeous skitrs...I've found a fabbop retro shop nearby that makes 1950 style frocks at reasonable prices ( i know this is 1940s, just thought I'd mention it) Will post some photys.
go you! always a delight to find a purveyor of vintage (or repro!) frockery. I don't do the 50's frocks quite so much (a little frou frou for my tastes, some of 'em) but I do have a few that I LOVE. found a woman in god's country who imports originals from the US and they're always in great condition.
harder to find 40's stuff still in wearable order, but I've tracked down a supplier in the states. they have vast quantities of the stuff - some in great nick, others only good for taking pattern or study.
the problem with some reproduction stuff is that they just don't cut it as extremely as it needs to be cut to look and fit authentically. it's sort of dumbed down for the modern torso and the modern seamstress, if you will. huge waistlines and not enough tapering and darts ... that sort of thing. some of them are doing it right, though. I have a repro 50's number here that has a 24" waist :o
Does there have to be a war on to have that much fun?
ReplyDeleteapparently. it's all in the contrast, I guess.
