The Voice

.....anyone watching? Given this blog exists because of certain members obsession with Idol, msurely I'm not the only one to have tuned in? I missed last weeks beginning, but pricked up me ears when I heard so much positive staff room chatter. Seems we re over watching the likes of Sandipants and Holden tear delusional people with pitch problems into pieces and there is actually an interest in seeing what kind of voices can make other singers turn around. I'm loving some of the singing...hurray,they re auditioning the singers before they get on the show and it's almost all worth listening to.... Whilst no one has been bagging contestants so far, I've heard an awful lot of Delta bagging going down, much of it from singer friends and acquaintances. Um, jealousy, much? Extraordinarily beautiful very talented and a pile of arias..... Leave girlfriend alone I say; it's a tough gig, up there with the likes of Seal, and the main reality television schadenfreude is being provided in the moments when she's rejected by contestants in favor of Seal, Keith or Joel. My fave moments: Barnesy s daughter going off (THE Voice!) and the girl singing the Regina Spector song Samson (I loooove Regina Spector songs). Moments I could have done without: Seal dancing to some chick who could barely hold a tune and announcing that she could win the comp. Yes, she was hot, but wow, he must be a great singing teacher because I have nooo idea what he heard. None of the guys have got me going so far, although I know of a couple of them thru mutual music mates. Because this comp has actually got real live singers competing, rather than delusional teens. And I think that's great. What's in the water at channel nine? They've never got it right before.......

The Autumn Report

- its not a bad deal, this autumn bizzo. Trees with leaves falling off them. Awesome colours. Great big fat chestnuts, earlier, bigger and fatter than other years due to a couple of heavy rain seasons. I could do without ALL of the burning off. ; feels a little over zealous, starts the minute fire seasons over and it renders all laundry impossible because this hills are wreathed in smoke. I'd love to wax poetic about the fireplace but autumn has been so warm so far that we've only had the fire going one night. Chook is laying more eggs than we can eat, farmer is still providing divine raw milk and is now taking orders for free range pork....life is good.....what about the rest of Australia???

The Amazing Drumming Monkeys Song

In real life, they're funnier...

Shooglenifty in Budawang - National Folk Festival 2012

Canberra National Folk Festival 2012 top bits & bottom bits

Top Bits: The Amazing Drumming Monkeys: If Flight of the Conchordes ever put a kids show together, this'd be it. Weeeeeeeeee. Watch 2 dudes in half monkey suits with djembes try to flip a froggy beanbag int a fake pond. And miss. Over and over. Loved them - Liz Frencham and Fred Smith: they're kind of like king and queen of the prom except much much cooler, when it comes to folk festivals. Love their songwriting and Liz Frencham has the best smile in the world. - Shooglenifty: Ten years on from when I first fell for this band, Angus looks sober. But hey, he's still alive. And he's still a violin god. My daughter turned to me during their set and said 'Mum, this is the best music of my LIFE'. And danced wildly. - Mick Conway: Is a nutter - Katie Noonan: Is a goddess - Peter Coombe: did a set at 9.30 Sunday night, and the place was full of twenty- somethings singing and dancing to their fave kids artist. Very cute. - Everything at a tent called Shrumpy: great mulled wine, great company and loads of irish music. Wish I was still there. - Bottom Bits: - The Troubadour tent is no more. Pity. I like a bit o tradition at the National....think there was some kind of politiking. - My BLUDDY kids wanted to go to the creche in the middle of the day 'but darling, dont you want to build a lagerphone with me?' 'Nah. I want to watch Wallis and Grommit'. 'But sweetheart, you can do that at home' 'yeah, but they've got it HERE too!...' - My 7 hour train trip home with 2 kids from Canberra to Melbourne (I'm insane....evolved into a 9 hour train trip. Yes, I got on a train in Yass at 12.30pm and arrived around 9.30 pm. Without husband. Manoman. - And a distinct lack of the Famille Darthsideous was a downer.....what happened?

Hi Ho!

I know I know, I am a bad blogger. Actually probably one of the worst. I lack commitment some days.

My life has been crazy busy. Between home, work and family I have barely had time to stop. Not only that, but my best friend prior to Christmas ended up in hospital with spinal injuries and as such it has been a long road to recovery. He is now finally out of hospital and miracle of all miracles, he is walking again. Something that we doubted would ever happen.

I have also been spending a lot of spare time (not that there has been much of it) writing and keeping my mind active. I finished my series of short stories and I have now moved on to another story.

How have you all been? Have I missed much? If so, someone best recap me and fast ;-)

our last trip to the nationals :(

this is crap footage (which I didn't take, but I was there!), though who cares when it's the deeply worshipworthy nano stern on stage.  gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous man and such a talent.  sigh ...... sigh ......

For Darthy and her Rhythmbox

..Hey darthy! You going to the National or not? You have an email :)

another

I kinda like this one ... reminds me of something the kids might make out of sheer boredom during school holidays.  anyway, the last bit had me laffing out loud :D

LIQUID SKY TRAILER #1

I dont know if this trailer does justice to the Liquid Sky experience. Tell me I'm not the only one who saw this....I think you could watch the whole thing on youtube if you wanted; I'm still recovering from having watched it too many times in the 80s as it is. Blimey.

Worshipping at the Church of the Great God IPad

Soooooo In the past 48 hours in my spare time, I have read 2 Twilight novels via ipad, and borrowed 2 Twilight movies via IPad ($4 per movie, around the same as a vid store but without leaving the house). Having devoured all of that late noughties zeitgeist palaver I am now sitting with aforesaid I pad blogging about it. I can't get enough of this little darling. I've bought an app called garage band for five bucks which does roughly the same work on creating a music demo as a studio worth thousands can do but I haven't done anything with it yet because I've been watching and reading so much freaking Twilight stuff, oh, aside from the three hours free I had today (kids at child care) when I ran away to the cinema for The Hunger Games. So heres my commentary on my popular culture binge: Twilight the Movie: is unintentionally funny, isn't it? RPat and his bad makeup, and even worse lines. He does a decent James Dean as a Vampire impersonation, tho. And all of those vampires wearing so much white makeup they look like they've all walked out of a Marcel Marceau convention...Teenagers and their obsessions with sex and death and addictions to same....anyone remember Liquid Sky? My first mad cult film. Aliens, heroin and orgasms. 1980s. reminder to self: find Liquid Sky on YouTube via Ipad and post clip to blog. By the way, the soundtrack to Twilight the Movie is kickarse, ain't it? I'll have to download it because I LOVED IT. My favorite Twilight character is Alice. I'm sure there's a whole Alice fan club out there. Relieved that Bella is slightly (VERY SLIGHTLY) less passive than she is in the book. New Moon. The Book: more fun and games....Eeeew, not happy with Sam and Emily and Emilys face being half pulled off but she loves him deeply anyway and thats just the risk that take because he can't help himself if he's angry; thats crap. I haven't worked with women escaping domestic violence for some years now, but Ive done enough to have met many many women who would agree with Emily and who would believe that it's just the risk girls take for running with wolves...so, is this what teenage girls think is love? Oh dear. Looks like there'll be plenty of work in DV services for years to come then, if I ever wanted to go back to it. which I don't. I wouldn't be up on my high horse but I have a fair idea of how HUGE these books were for adolescents. so I am. On my high horse. Lovely view from here... The Hunger Games the movie: hey, Margaret and David gave Twilight 4 stars and they gave the Hunger Games 1. How does that work? I admit, the Hunger Games soundtrack has nothing on Twilights. But the material and the performances are great. I especially liked Lenny Kravitz as Katniss's dress designer with depth, and, of course, Jennifer Lawrence was great Rightio then. Off to finish the New Moon movie....will post Liquid Sky when I can...

Re: Twilight:brief note

Hey, I finally read the first Twilight; about three or four years after the rest of the world. Yes! Lots of fun, tho it suffered a little, being read hot on the heels of the Hunting Games. No comparison, but highly pageturningly addictive nonetheless. Think I'm more likely to be on Team Feminism's side than Team Edward, tho...still sitting in Team Katniss, Team Peeta and Team Finnick following my Hunger Games readathon, anyways. Obsessive vampire stalkers and chicks behaving like deer in the headlights aint the same as to alpha female archers, loveable artistic bakers and trident brandishing fishermen fighting the system. I'm hooked, all the same, and galloping on to New Moon....does this mean I need to see the movies? Probably.... :D
