this week in boganry

hola, cupcakes. it might not interest you to know that this week I made one my first forays into the world of purchaising recycled clobber online. I've dabbled here and there, but always found vinnies up to speed so never needed to hit the bid button. first up lemme say it's a revelation to see what utter crap some folk try to pass off as useful and desirable, it roolly is. the next kicker is the fact that anything remotely worth having is obsessively bid upon by frenzied and probably ebay-addicted hipsters the country over - thus rendering my position impossible. take the doc martens boots I had an eye on recently. every sally and her feet apparently wants used 8 up docs. no hope! now I've moved on to vintage tooled leather shoulder bags - but they're hotter property than the doc martens, and by the time you actually 'win' one that would otherwise cost $10 at vinnies, you've forked out $50 for the bag and another $15 for shipping. it's for the birds, it really is. but on to my initial point. the sheer weight of ed hardy clobber available for the undiscerning (ie, prepared to wear used clothing - which is normally anathema to your average bogue) bogan. ebay is drowning in the stuff. wtf.

  1. Must confess that a few years ago I went through an ebay addict phase.....fought tooth and nail for some coveted Pumpkin Patch stuff.
Doesnt do to get too attached, i must say.
Wish i still had my green docs, just to see what I'd get for em on ebay! :P
My advice as an ex ebaynutter: Go back to the categories you're interested in in a month or so, because sometime the flock of seagulls have moved on, and you can pick up a bargain. Also, NEVER bid on anything until the last few minutes of the sale. It just pushes the price up and gets other gnagsters fired up to push the price up as well. Wait till the last 2 minutes. Put in your second best price. If anyone overbids you, go 50 cents over your best price and you'll usually get your item...

  2. ..I also belong to a much saner website called freecycle. Here's the national website:

    http://www.freecycle.org/group/AU/

find your local group and join. People post free giveaways. Great for kids toys and hand me down clothing. You can also ask for stuff- someone recently posted on our local freecycle asking for a free mp3 player! Dunno how they went...Can also save you making a trip to the op shop if you wan to get rid of stuff- you post what you have and arrange for people to pick it up (from your place, or elsewhere if you're concerned re security)
Freecycle helped me break my ebay bonds...

  3. I'm currently in the throes of an ebay flogging fest. As the kids grow, their toys, bikes, clobber, books & manchester are up for auction.

  4. ta wilms. all good advice. since I don't actually get to the point of bidding, it may well be moot, however! though of course having sold a few trinkets myself, I'm across that leave it til last second biz. freecycle is great, eh? one doesn't always find green docs though, sadly.

whatcha got in the way of PS2 games, betts?

  5. PS2 games are a dime a dozen, I'm afraid. Now that the supersedular PS3 is out, Ratchet & Clank can only fetch a couple of bucks.
