The Voice Weekly Rant
Is it the new format? Am I just a ham? Tick both boxes? I'm finding there are moments when I actually feel moved by this show. After all of those years of de sensitization courtesy of Idol and whatever that one on seven was (forgotten already...X Factor? Yes, X Factor).
Battle rounds this week and I'm torn. I just adore listening to people work together beautifully with music. I cant stand the competition element being highlighted the way it is (that'd be due to my day job...not a lot of fierce music therapists out there waiting to tear singers to pieces..)some of those singers are dueting like angels and the last thing we should all be doing is discussing which one's the winner and which one gets kicked off. But that is obviously just me, because the format is soooo popular.
Honeymoon was nearly over for me when Joelsie listened to his dick instead of his brother and chose Prinnie Hot Pants over Mahalia Barnes and her awesome sound. What the hey. Also began to feel a leetle disgruntled about the number of singers paired with younger, perkier versions of themselves, who were duly sacrificed on the altar of youth and/or looks. I'm thinking bye bye Cam Tapp, so long Chris Hazelwood. Then Delta uppped and chose the gorgeous, older Danni de Ross over a blond spunky lass called Sarah Lloyde, and Keith! Keith! Chose old pub hack JIMMY CUPPLES over a younger soulful Glen Whitehall! Very excited to see that the Secret Siblinghood of Musicians in Australia extends to famous folk like Delta and Keef. Choices being made for reasons other than recording company shiite. Brought a tear to my eye to see older musos being given a go. Only too happy to see Delta favouring her backing vocalist Glen Cunningham; if networking cant work for you in a comp like this, then whats it for, for chrissakes. Looking at you, Joelsie Madden remember networkign with the Barnes family? Very cross with you about Mahalia. NO ONE is going to buy music from Prinnie Hotpants. Mahalia could have won it for you. Idiot. I do like your eyeliner, tho. Reminds me of the Uncanny X Men. That is all.
